Well, it took a little motivation, but I finally got around to photographing the cottage outside, where I have been thinking about (and talking about) since the day I finished it, and took the original exterior pictures, which I was not fond of.
And since I am horrible at narrowing down pictures to the best couple, here are a bunch :)
And this one is where the cottage owners installed an insanely large pool :)
Love the front door and pot chair!
I love everything about your cottage! The color is great and the flowers are perfect. My favorite piece is the pot inside the chair. Wonderful!

ReplyDeleteBye, Faby
Thank you Karolyn and Fabiola :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jodi- just found your blog tonight while looking for inspiration for my new project. Essentially my first since it has been almost 30 years since I did this before. Anyway, would you consider sharing the process you used for the exterior paint on this cottage? I would be so thankful.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and perusing all your wonderful work.
Thanks Barb, hopefully I'll be finishing my next project in the next 3-4 weeks, so I will be posting again then. For the cottage, I first primed all the sides (it's MDF) with Gesso, then I did kinda a dry brushing with the pink, dragging a bit extra paint at times, and just kept going until I got the look I wanted. It's easier to use small amounts of paint and keep adding vs thick paint and then trying to remove as the MDF will damage. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions, please ask :)
ReplyDeleteJodi, if you don't mind me asking, where did you find that exquisite door? And what did you use to make the roof? It is so perfect and beautiful! Thank you-Jennifer
ReplyDeleteJennifer, sorry for the delay, I was out of town and I knew I had the info at home :) I purchased the door from Stained Glass by Barbara Sabia, here's her website http://www.barbarasabia.com. The roof shingles are just Unfinished Pine Octagon Butt Shingles from Miniatures.com, if I recall correctly, I did a combination paint and wash on each shingle using gray paints and then I followed up by sanding some a bit on the edges, I worked on the shingles individually before I put them on the roof. Thanks so much for the compliments, I really enjoy this project also.
ReplyDeleteLove the cottage, wondered where you purchased the roof shingles and did they come that color. So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They are purchased in a large bag, I then experimented on them to get the look I wanted, I believe I painted them, then did a water wash over the wet paint, then wiped dry. After they dried completely I sanded some, especially the edges.
ReplyDelete beautiful I really love your little cottage. I want to move in.
ReplyDeleteYour work is outstanding! I made a Pinterest page of Victorian playhouses/dollhouses for my daughter to look through and she chose yours! My helper and I built a 10’x10’ replica w no plans. We turned the peak to face our garden and added a skylight and our own touches. It matches our actual Victorian home in color and materials. My wife is currently making a stained glass for the entry door which is the finishing touch. It is insulated and has power. It does have vinyl windows and commercial laminate flooring. The spindles and hand rail were salvaged and cut down to size. The skylight was habitat for humanity. We love your dollhouse and thank you for the inspiration! I’d like to send you a picture if you are interested. Keep sharing your gifts with the world!
